For pure critical emergency use without any messaging capability that would be the choice I think. Anything else (Spot, InReach, Sat Phone) involves subscription fees as far as I know.
I personally carry a Sat phone, but if I was starting fresh I would probably go with the InReach as it is much cheaper for 2 way messaging (granted no talk.)
This is thrilling! And will stand as a great example of science and careful management, making the Park once again a jewel in the recreational crown of Washington State!
I might actually visit a lake there now! 😆
What a beautiful brown! And here I was thrilled with the 18″ one I caught last week 🙂 Can’t believe all these incredible fish you’ve caught all year.
Holee Cowabunga, I’m speechless! Guess we know who wears the Big Fish pants around here! Sorry Dave, I think you’ve lost this one!
wow, what a fish! but hmm, does Leif hike to high lakes over 2500′ in blue jeans? Maybe Dave W still has a chance at the Kingfish after all… !
Thanks for your interest! For questions about the Hi-Lakers or becoming a member, just contact Doug Cronin, chair of the new member committee, at newmembers@hilakers.org. Or come in person to a monthly Hi-Laker meeting directions here: http://www.hilakers.org/
A time out would be a temporary ban – you would have to provide the music 🙂
Tryin’ to stir up trouble I see!!! 😆
The “Foe” button apparently removes your ability to receive PM’s and see posted messages from that person. I don’t believe the “Friends” button adds any appreciable functionality, but I could be wrong there.
I found this neat summary web page which has contact info for all of them – including an email link that says it goes to the entire committee

There doesn’t appear to be much interest in an “estate” up there for whatever reason, as this property has been for sale for quite a while (well before the economic downturn as I recall).
That’s not an excuse 😉 And I think I’ll leave skinning up Kamikaze to the Jason Hummel types!
I thought I had heard it was for logging access, but that could be a fig newton of my imagination. But also – I had been told just recently there was trail maintenance with blasting on the Kamikaze trail, and that the trail was closed by the workers. So I did Mailbox instead last week.
Still have all your fingers and toes, Sandy? 🙂
Thanks Sooperfly, Brian – now I really want to get rid of the 10 lb as I only do lake trout fishing, but I guess since we paid for it I’ll give it one try.

You’ll quickly start remembering to flip your bail when you pay the bill to replace those Whoopies. 😀
Uh… yeah. Tell me about it. Painful! I already had to order more last week. I don’t want to lose anymore – at least not for a stupid reason.
