Looks good to me, Eric. I know someone else who “won all the raffle prizes” now!

Cliff – Interesting. I was there on Monday and everyone was fishing under a bobber. The wind can turn some folks to trolling. Monday was nice and calm.

Brad – every fly shop had them now. They are foam with a black tapered pin that goes through them for the line. I buy mine from Fishing and Marine supply in Portland for .25 cents each. Most fly shops charge .50 or .75 each. I like the bright orange (blaze orange?) ones for my eyes. If the water is dead calm I use the smaller ones. Makes casting easier. Otherwise I use the med sized ones. Easier to see in the chop.

John – Oiling the road surface is what he was saying – not oiling the car.

Looks good. It looks like we did not have a vote on the dues motion?

Eric, I believe the guy who we have rented the raft tools is ANDY Schmidt, not Randy. Everything else looks good.

Mike, you can add my name to the list for both Sat and Sun. Probably my wife, Cheryl will be there also and maybe one daughter.

It was a beautiful day to be out on the water. Nice and warm and calm. And the chironomids were popping all day long. The fish were really biting lightly and you had to be quick on the rod lift to hook a fish. Most were RB averaging 16″ with a few browns thrown in to 18″. I didn’t have a fish smaller than 15″. The fish were strong. They were hitting mostly chromie with red rib and dark olive with red rib in size 16. A foot off the bottom in 17′ of water in the morning and a little deeper, 20′, and about 3′ up from the bottom after lunch. Rodney and I stayed out 30 minutes longer than the others and we came in at 5:00. Here’s a few shots from me. I think Rodney has some also.

Not everyone caught fish, but I think everyone enjoyed the day – it was hard not to!

I have a small gas grill I use for road trips I’ll bring. I’ll have the camper so I can do hot water if anyone wants cocoa or tea. It may be pretty crowded so not sure if there will be space to set up an awning. Having a camp chair might be a good thing to throw in. I’ll be getting there about 8:00.
I’ll have some strike indicators and swivels Kathy. And I may have a few thousand extra flies. Just remember your rain gear and anchors!
And everyone remember we’re into a new fishing license season.

I know that Tom was a good friend of Gerry Ring-Erickson and was also an early inspiration to me in fishing chironomids. I remember that he did a demo on tying many years ago at one of our meetings. He did a lot of hiking early on, and when his knees got bad he switched to fishing from a pram in drive to lakes. A good guy who lived life well.

I just put a trip report up on that section for anyone interested in what Pass Lk is doing.

I figured out how to get rid of the big picture, Brian.

I think with a shorter leader, say under 10′, it probably wouldn’t matter. For a longer leader to turn over and not collapse on itself when cast it needs to have the taper. Especially the heavy butt section is needed to get the whole leader to roll over. The weight of the swivel and one or two flies makes a pretty big impact on how the leader turns over. I tried to use a #4 swivel once and it cast like I had a rock on the line.
(BTW Brian. I got the smaller pic in, but I’m not sure how to delete the big one)
