Washington Trail Blazers

Trail Blazer Vignettes

Browsing through the Trail Blazer annual reports, 1933-1969, (that Mike Swayne did such a quality job putting together) has brought back a lot of memories. In addition, I also was impressed by some of the trips. Some trips were plain, unadulterated butt beaters. The Trail Blazers and visitors who successfully completed those trips deserve either kudos for succeeding under most difficult circumstances or a “how stupid can you get” label for doing what they did. Other trips were (to me) interesting, challenging, creative, or any one of several other “impressive” labels because of the era and conditions in which they were made. I would be remiss if I did not call attention to the number of trips that started between 12:30-4:00 a.m. Should the participants be characterized as stupid? Or dedicated? I prefer the latter.

The reports included below are ones I concluded needed to be spotlighted. If you can project yourself into the trip, you will get much more out of it, and you probably will wind up with mentally aching muscles at the end of some of them. Enjoy... They were great trips.
